More and more drivers are finding themselves stuck and in need of assistance along remote tracks as a "Google Maps trend" continues to cost unsuspecting tourists as they explore Australia.

West Australian tow truck operator Shaun Barrett recently had to haul a hired Audi full of tourists some five kilometres down a sandy track after they followed the navigation app and managed to got stuck in uneven terrain.

"We deal with stuff like this all the time. It's not uncommon," Barrett from Westcoast 4x4 Recovery told Yahoo News Australia on Tuesday.
