TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Leon County Commission is changing how fire fees are collected.
This comes after months-long discussions about the fee itself.
Commissioners previously decided not to raise the fee in the county. When the county decided not to raise its fee, the City of Tallahassee passed an increased fee, but decided to pause work on new fire stations.
At Monday night’s meeting, Leon County commissioners decided to fold the fire fee into the yearly tax bill for unincorporated areas instead of attaching it to the monthly utility bill.
Previously, some commissioners said it would be unfair to turn people’s lights off for not paying the fire fee.
Monday night, some commissioners raised concerns that it could impact renters.
“I don’t think this plays out well for the rente
