A Pittsylvania County man is facing charges in the Sunday night shooting death of his 64-year-old wife, authorities report.

It was shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday, the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office got a 911 call of a woman found dead in the Derby Road area in Gretna, a news release from Capt. M. Gerald Ford reported.

When deputies arrived, they found Cynthia Rowland at her home with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials did not detail whether the body was found inside or outside of the home.

Lonnie Rowland, 66, was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, Ford reported. He's being held in Pittsylvania County Jail under no bond.
