CADILLAC — A short term rental in the general Cadillac business zoning district got the green light Monday evening.

The Cadillac City council held a public hearing for a property located at 820 Mitchell Street and voted unanimously to allow that property to become a short-term rental with a special land use permit.

The owner was trying to get his property rezoned from its current classification to one that allowed for short term rentals.

The planning commission denied that request, instead recommending that the property owner go this route instead.

City manager, Marcus Peccia said this doesn’t open the floodgates for short term rentals in the general business district and any other requests for short term rentals by special land use permit will still be on a case-by-case basis.
