BEAUMONT, Texas — Flowers, stuffed animals and signs now line Washington Boulevard as the community remembers 19-year-old Jasmine Batiste , who was killed in a head-on crash over the weekend.
Batiste, the great-niece of former Beaumont Mayor Robin Mouton, died early Sunday morning while driving to pick up her 3-year-old son. Police said 47-year-old Lajanara Stevenson was driving in the wrong lane when his vehicle struck hers. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Batiste’s father, Reginald, described his daughter as a devoted mother and sister who was “hard working” and “really outgoing.”
“She would always want to work, always wanted to work. She’d come to work with me sometimes,” he said.
Reginald said he rushed to the crash scene after getting the call, but it was too
