OMAHA, Neb. —

UNO kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with its annual Fiesta on the Plaza at the Milo Bail Student Center on Monday morning.

Amid the sound of mariachi and the smell of tamales, sophomore Adriana Flores stood with a smile on her face.

"I really like it; it's making me super happy," Flores said. "I'm glad that they're doing this."

She and the rest of UNO are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month until Oct. 15. Students can participate in craft days, learn salsa dancing, and go on Hispanic food tours.

"We just have a great time," Olivia Kenny, director of co-curricular education outreach at UNO, said. "We're also doing a loteria game day, which is similar to bingo."

Flores doesn't know how she'll celebrate, but she does know who it will be with.
