Crime in regional NSW is trending downwards, although retail theft, primarily the theft of alcohol, has grown by 140 per cent over the past 10 years.

A NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOSCAR) June quarterly update , released on September 16, found property-related offences in regional NSW had dropped by 8.9 per cent over the past two years to July 2025.

The Far West and Orana regions have experienced a significant 22 per cent fall in crime reports, while the NSW Riverina has recorded a 16.6 per cent decline.
