McLaren Northern Michigan is offering a free prostate cancer screening on Thursday, Sept. 18.

The screenings will take place from 4-8 p.m. at the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Northern Michigan, 560 W. Mitchell St., Suite 185 in Petoskey, according to a hospital announcement.

The screening is open to men ages 40-79, with or without symptoms, and involves a simple blood test that measures prostate-specific antigen, a protein produced by the prostate. An accredited medical lab analyzes the results, which are typically available within two weeks. The entire process takes about 15 minutes.
