Police officers investigating the brutal murder of an 18-year-old woman were initially convinced that her injuries were so severe that they could only have been inflicted by an adult male, and feared they might have a serial killer on their hands. When the truth emerged, some two years later, detectives were completely stunned.

On a warm summer's night in June 1992, Katie Rackliff left Ragamuffins nightclub in Camberley and embarked on her journey home. However, the trainee hairdresser would tragically never reach her destination.

She was attacked by a complete stranger who stabbed her repeatedly with a six-inch-long knife. Among the total of 32 stab wounds were several to her genitals as well as her ribs and heart.
