NEW BEDFORD — After 28 years dedicated to sharing in the Whaling City's rich maritime heritage with visitors from around the world, Jennifer Smith, superintendent of New Bedford Whaling National Historical Par k, has retired.

Her last day in office was Aug. 29, marking the end of an era for the historic park and the vibrant community it anchors.
