“Ghost students” are wreaking havoc at college campuses across Minnesota, though not the undead kind. “Ghost students are scammers who often use stolen identities to enroll online and steal money in the form of financial aid,” KSTP reports. “The Minnesota State system says it flagged more than 7,715 ‘fraudulent’ or ‘potentially fraudulent’ applications in just the last academic year.” At least two ghost students stole real money from a local college this year.
