MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Minneapolis police are investigating a mass shooting at a homeless encampment late Monday night that left eight people hurt. This shooting comes as police are investigating another mass shooting that injured five people just hours earlier .

What we know:

The shooting happened just after 10 p.m. on Monday near 28th and East Lake Street in the Longfellow neighborhood. Police say five men and three women were shot. Three of the men, and one woman, have life-threatening injuries. The other four victims are expected to survive.

It’s unclear what led to the gunfire, but police believe it was a shootout between at least two people. Some of the tents in the encampment started on fire after the shooting, and firefighters were called
