More than 300 people from across the state gathered at Hubbard Park on the University of Iowa campus at a candlelight vigil honoring conservative influencer and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk , who was killed in Utah.

The Sept. 15 vigil, organized by the University of Iowa's Turning Point USA chapter, was an evening to "Honor (Kirk's) incredibly impactful life, pray for him, his family, this country, and all affected by this tragic event," according to a social media post from the organization's local chapter.

Kirk, 31, was shot on Sept. 10 while speaking on the first stop of his "American Comeback Tour" on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Tyler Robinson, 22, is accused of shooting and killing Kirk.
