VANCOUVER, Wash. (KPTV) - Vancouver Public Schools and union workers reached a tentative agreement on Monday to avoid a strike.

Vancouver Association of Educational Support Professionals, which represents which represents over 800 paraeducators, clerks, secretaries and tech support specialists, says union members will have until Oct. 1 to vote on the agreement.

The agreement with district comes after VAESP union members voted to authorize a strike on Thursday.

The two sides have been negotiating since April.

“We are pleased to have an agreement we can bring to our members for a vote,” said VAESP President Chipo Sowards, who is a Media Clerk at Hudson Bay High School and Lincoln Elementary School. “Our bargaining team believes this is a fair, solutions-based deal.”
