SAGINAW, MI — A murder trial in Saginaw suffered an unexpected delay when the defendant had to be rushed to an area hospital.

Though his stay in the facility was brief, a judge had to convene a hearing to determine if the suspect is healthy enough for his trial to continue.

Cetrice L. Bowens, 42, is charged with open murder, first-degree arson, and seven firearm-related counts stemming from the 2024 homicide of Tyrone L. “Orange” Cannady, a 40-year-old father of six. His trial began Sept. 9 and was to resume at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15. About 8 a.m., however, Saginaw County Jail corrections officers found Bowens acting bizarre in his cell.
