ETNA, Ohio — A 3-year-old boy who was reported missing from his home in Etna Township on Monday died after he was pulled from a retention pond, authorities say.

A Licking County dispatcher said the call for the missing child came in at 1:35 p.m. He was reported missing from the area of Gala Avenue in Etna, just south of Pataskala.

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies, firefighters and medics arrived on scene and began searching for the boy with help from neighbors in the area.

At 3:06 p.m., the sheriff’s office said the boy was found in a nearby retention pond. Officials said it had been the focus of the search “from the onset.”

A 10TV crew on the scene saw the boy being taken out of the pond and moved to an ambulance.
