A September heat wave isn’t the only thing making San Francisco Supervisor Joel Engardio sweat this week.
Monday is the last day for Sunset residents to vote on whether to remove him from office in the city’s latest recall election.
Engardio, elected in 2022, has faced backlash for supporting a 2024 ballot measure in 2024 that removed cars from a 2-mile stretch of the Great Highway to create a beachside park.
Voters citywide approved Proposition K, but most Sunset residents who live closest to the park opposed it.
“He’s lost the trust of the majority of his constituents,” said Lisa Arjes, a recall supporter, Sunset resident and plaintiff in an ongoing lawsuit over the road closure. “He’s answering to different voices and backers than the people who put him in office.”
