ENGLEWOOD — A community center created to empower young men of color through the arts, enrichment programs, mental health support and mentorship opportunities is open in Englewood.
Local officials and community organizers gathered in early September for the grand opening of the Urban Male Network Empowerment Center.
Leaders at the Urban Male Network, an organization that uplifts young men from urban communities, transformed a long-vacant building at 6500 S. Carpenter St. into the state-of-the-art hub for the community. They bought the building from the Cook County Land Bank in 2023.
The organization designed the Empowerment Center to offer activities young people in the program love to do, said Marlon Haywood, CEO and founder at the Urban Male Network.
