NEW IBERIA, La (KLFY) -- The TECHE Project of New Iberia has been awarded a Legends & Lore Marker grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.
The deep red marker will be dedicated on Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. on what is known as “International Talk Like a Pirate Day.” The marker is located on the Bridge Street side of the property right across from Bayou Teche and the dedication is open to the public.
The marker has been installed at Place Eugenie at 109 Bridge St. in New Iberia, on the site of the old Mount Carmel Academy. The Herman J. Schellstede family purchased the facility in 1998 and continues to enjoy the many facets of Place Eugenie's historical significance.
