The cost for tearing down Roosevelt Elementary in Keego Harbor just went up.
On Monday night the West Bloomfield school board approved up to $263,240 in additional costs for asbestos abatement and new air monitoring at the 100-year-old former elementary school.
The board voted 4-2 on additional asbestos cleanup work at a cost not to exceed $43,240, and further approved the allocation of $150,000 in additional contingency funds.
Board President Stacy Brickman, Vice President Nelson Hirsh and Trustees Art Holdsworth, Ashliegh Davis and Julie Beaty voted in favor of the motion. Trustees Kirsten Douglass and Deborah Evans voted against.
When the board approved bids for the entire process at their March 18, 2024 meeting, they approved $558,000 for contracts to cover $465,000 for demolition
