LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is delivering a speech she is calling "Protect and Defend Michigan's Economy."

Whitmer will address federal tariffs, last week's jobs report, a looming federal government shutdown and Michigan's manufacturing sector, which is projected to be impacted by tariffs.

The report Whitmer is referencing revealed that the U.S. added 258,000 fewer jobs than what was first reported, drastically changing the picture of the U.S. economy. U.S. House Republicans have been working to pass short-term funding that would keep the federal government open come Oct. 1.

The speech is scheduled to begin at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday. Viewers can watch live in the player above.
