UK households are being told of the exact date that you should switch your heating on this year, and it differs depending on where you live.

With the weather turning chillier across the country as we enter into autumn, millions of households will soon face the annual debate of when is the right time to turn on the heating.

Many Brits hold off for as long as possible, often waiting until temperatures consistently drop below 15.5C. In the UK, it's usually recommended that Brits switch on their boiler around mid-October, typically around October 13.

However, heating experts at Vaillant have analysed Met Office data from the last five years to pinpoint the best date to turn your heating on in each major UK city, and the average date is much earlier than usual.
