Hollywood icon Robert Redford has died at the age of 89 . The international film community has come together to mourn the star, who first became prominent in the 1960s.

That includes Film Cincinnati, who attempted to bring the Sundance Film Festival, which was founded by Redford, to the Queen City beginning in 2027. Advertisement

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Robert Redford, who shaped American cinema for decades, championed independent filmmaking and left a lasting imprint right here in Ohio," said Kristen Schlotman, President & CEO of Film Cincinnati. "His final feature film, The Old Man & the Gun, was filmed in Cincinnati and surrounding communities—showing that our region has been part of his storied legacy."
