A former Manchester woman charged with secretly adding melatonin to children’s food at her in-home day care center will spend no time in jail after pleading guilty Monday morning before a judge who had strong words for her actions.

Sally Dreckmann, 53, who operated an unlicensed day care at her home on Amory Street, pleaded guilty to charges of falsifying physical evidence, a felony, and reckless conduct, an enhanced misdemeanor.

The plea agreement came after the Hillsborough County Attorney’s Office said it would have been a challenge to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Shawn Sweeney told Judge Amy Messer the office spent six months trying to find an expert who could testify conclusively that melatonin was a danger to children of certain ages.
