Friday night's high school football game between Andrews High School and Smith High School ended early after a player punched a referee, the High Point Police Department said.
The referee was evaluated for injuries at Simeon Stadium in High Point, but did not require any additional medical attention.
Charges are expected to be filed in the case, the police department said, but because the student-athlete is a juvenile, it will be through a juvenile petition.
The High Point Enterprise reported Andrews led 16-14 with 2:02 left in the fourth quarter when a Smith player threw a punch at the head referee.
Smith had another game called off in early August. The school played Northwest Cabarrus in Mount Tabor's football jamboree when Smith players got into two separate altercations with the
