Volunteers hoping to light the way to cures for blood cancers are planning their fourth-annual Light the Night fundraising walk for Oct. 4 in Belleville.

Scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lions’ Pavilion at West Zwick’s Centennial Park, it will raise funds for local residents with blood cancers and for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.

The local walk is organized by a team known as Carol’s CUREsaders – the family and friends of the late Carol Goerke. The local resident was just 53 when in 2021 she died following a battle with cancer. She was the manager of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board’s international student program.
