Artists are being sought to revitalise a “tired” pedestrian tunnel in Canterbury through a new public art commission. Hackington Place Tunnel on St Stephen’s Walkway has been in a state of disrepair in recent weeks after being plagued by vandalism and graffiti.
Now Canterbury City Council (CCC) is looking to breathe new life into the pedestrian walkway by commissioning local artists to brighten up the 17.5-metre tunnel with a “visually-engaging design”.
It is hoped that doing so will improve both the perceptions of safety and public awareness of the structure, which is owned and maintained by Network Rail.
