An inspection of a Kent care home where most of the residents have dementia, uncovered 54 breaches of care regulations and has resulted in it being put in special measures.

A three-day unannounced inspection was carried out following concerns raised with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) about the safety of the care at Meadow View Care Home in Hersden in Canterbury .

The breaches were found in a wide-range of areas, from care and treatment, to staffing, safeguarding residents from abuse and improper treatment, to preventing the spread of infections, and good governance.

One resident had only opened their bowels once in three months and yet there was no evidence that medical intervention had been sought for them.
