When it comes to comfort food, another classic, if you hail from the South, is shrimp and grits. Often associated with the Gullah Geechee tradition of coastal Carolina, anyone that serves grits can dress them up in this manner.

Of course the shrimp element is not inherent to our Appalachian mountains, but if you want to go local, you can collect crawdads from a neighboring stream, or substitute frog legs if you are of that persuasion - or even sauté up chicken strips for another twist. However, if you go the chicken route, make sure you procure a local chicken because otherwise the close-to-home purpose is lost, and you might as well go for the shrimp!
