Former Deputy Prime Minister and failed Liberal leadership candidate Chrystia Freeland is leaving the federal cabinet reportedly to take on an advisory role to the Canadian government on Ukraine.
Freeland, who last December spurred a political crisis for then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by suddenly resigning as finance minister just before she was set to deliver the fall economic statement, is once again leaving cabinet.
She posted a public letter on X today indicating that she has decided to step down from Cabinet and will not be seeking re-election. She is reportedly staying on as MP until the next election.
