WASHINGTON D.C. (HawaiiNewsNow) - A group of Hawaii cancer survivors and advocates are in Washington D.C. to meet with members of Congress in an effort to protect funding for cancer research.
Hawaii’s group of advocates are joined by more than 700 others from across the country, and spanning to Guam and Puerto Rico.
The D.C. gathering is part of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network‘s (ACSCAN) annual Leadership Summit and Lobby Day.
Advocates are scheduled to meet with Congress on Tuesday to discuss the need to support federal funding for cancer research and prevention ahead of the new federal budget deadline due Sept. 30.
They will also ask Congress to support the bipartisan Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act.
