MORIAH, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) - The Town of Moriah declared a local state of emergency Tuesday, ordering a mandatory water ban due to a water shortage.
This proclamation, signed September 16 by Town Supervisor Matthew Brassard, will remain in effect for the next 30 days unless it is officially terminated or extended.
The water ban order prohibits non-essential activities like washing cars, lawn watering and more. Commercial water use that is not deemed "essential for public health and safety" is also prohibited.
Essential, allowed water uses include drinking, cooking and personal hygiene.
Individuals and entities found violating the declaration will be subject to penalties. Each day a violation is found will reportedly be a separate offense, with each one being considered a Class B misdem
