NORRISTOWN — What started with a proposal to install a plaque in memory of a 17-year-old who died more than two decades ago ended with Norristown council members at odds.

The verbal showdown took place at a Norristown Municipal Council meeting earlier this month where the first item on the agenda pertained to signage featuring Robert “Rob” Hill, who died in October 2003, suffering a heart attack while playing basketball at Simmons Park.

Hill’s mother, Benna Adams, was overcome with emotion as she took to the podium during the Sept. 2 meeting, as it was the “first time in a long time” she was speaking publicly.

“He was well known … throughout Norristown. He was very athletic, and he passed away on the basketball court, and I appreciate what you guys are doing with the park,” Adams said
