California’s cannabis tax revenue increased in the second quarter of the year.

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration reported Monday that the state’s cannabis tax brought in nearly $260 million in the second quarter.

By the numbers: The total tax revenue from second-quarter returns came in at $259.7 million. • That total includes $147.3 million in cannabis excise tax and $112.4 million in sales tax reported from cannabis businesses. • The state also revised the first-quarter 2025 returns to $243.1 million, up from $237.4 million. • The state now has taken in over $500 million this year in cannabis tax revenue and over $7.3billion since the taxes went into effect in 2018.
