GEORGETOWN TWP., MI – Residents in Georgetown Township are voicing concerns about a massive recent water rate increase, with some complaining of water bills exceeding $600 despite using less water.

During a packed Sept. 8 board meeting, homeowners voiced frustration over the financial strain and what they see as poor planning by township officials. Some also claimed that inaccurate water meter readings have caused their bills to skyrocket.

The 55% water rate increase was approved by the Georgetown Township Board of Trustees earlier this summer. Township Manager Justin Stadt said the hike, which took effect in July, was a response to cost increases from the city of Wyoming tied to infrastructure improvements to accommodate high water use.
