LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- A man was hospitalized early Tuesday morning as a result of a fire that significantly damaged a Michigan Center home, the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety reports.

The department says they were dispatched to a structure fire at 134 Huggins Rd. at around 3:12 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, firefighters saw that the east side of a small, single-story home was on fire and a camper parked next to the home was fully engulfed in flames.

The only person inside the home at the time, a 31-year-old man, was asleep when the fire started. Officials say he woke up due to the fire, escaped the building, and called 911 from a neighbor's home.
