A Chemung County man has been accused of killing his girlfriend's 3-year-old son in New York's Southern Tier, according to New York State Police.

Christopher M. Woods, 27, of Horseheads, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Finn Hopkins, 3, also of Horseheads, on Monday, Sept. 15, said Trooper Lynnea Crane. The boy was brought to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, by Woods on Sept. 15. Finn was unresponsive and, despite lifesaving measures, was pronounced dead at the hospital, Crane said.

Hospital employees contacted Chemung County Child Protective Services that afternoon after noticing "suspicious injuries" on Finn and another sibling, Crane said. Troopers did not disclose the boy's cause of death.
