Eighteen people were arrested and nearly 20 firearms seized in a joint law enforcement operation targeting drug trafficking and gun violence in the McKeesport area throughout the summer, state Attorney General Dave Sunday announced at a press conference Tuesday.

Mr. Sunday said the latest wave of arrests in the monthslong effort came last week and approximately $40,000 of cocaine — as well as quantities of heroin and fentanyl — was seized as part of the Allegheny County Gun Violence Task Force’s “Operation Summer Suppression.”

Mr. Sunday said the initiative focused on individuals that authorities identified as contributing to the escalation of violence in the McKeesport area. It did not target a single criminal organization, but instead those who committed separate crimes.
