A Red Bay woman was sentenced Tuesday in the 2022 death of a Mississippi baby who was left asleep on her stomach.

Payton Gann, a former employee of Tiny Tigers Daycare in Red Bay, was one of five women indicted for the death of 4-month-old Autumn Wells after she was found unresponsive in their care on March 9, 2022.

According to court documents, Gann and fellow daycare worker Madison Jade McCalpin put the baby on her stomach on a “Boppy” pillow and left her there for an extended time covered with a blanket, which violates state standards.

The two initially lied to Red Bay Police when asked about Wells’ sleeping position, according to court documents.

Gann was sentenced Tuesday on charges of False reporting to law enforcement and Manslaughter, according to Franklin County District Attor
