HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Months after giving birth, guards found a woman dead inside a state prison cell in northeast Georgia. Now, the circumstances surrounding Sheqweetta Vaughan's death have non-profit leaders concerned.

Habersham County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Franklin said the cause and manner of Vaughan's death are undetermined. Franklin said he responded to Lee Arrendale State Prison on July 9 after receiving a 911 call from the prison.

According to his report, prison staff told him they checked on Vaughan at 10:08 a.m. and found her dead at 10:40 a.m. Franklin wrote he arrived at 12:10 p.m. and believes Vaughan was dead for 2 to 4 hours. He said it's difficult to know for sure.
