Voters in Ward 8 have their work cut out for them, sorting through 26 candidates to choose the one they prefer to replace John Paul Danko at city hall. Assuming they show up at the polls, which is never a sure thing in byelections.

But this is an important choice for them and for the city as a whole. And it’s a big moment for the person who ultimately gets selected, as former councillor Judi Partridge tells Placeline Hamilton.

The job comes with power to influence decisions and the prestige of being one of the 16 people around the council horseshoe. But, as she points out, it also comes with challenges the winner may not be anticipating.
