Candidates running to replace LaToya Cantrell as New Orleans mayor have slammed her record often, criticizing Cantrell's administration for fostering a leadership vacuum and a sense of acrimony in city government.
But on Tuesday, four hopefuls laid out what they view as bright spots from Cantrell's tenure, saying they would seek to replicate or preserve several initiatives her administration advanced.
City Council Vice President Helena Moreno commended the city's Health Department for its outreach work with domestic violence victims. State Sen. Royce Duplessis praised Cantrell's 2019 push at the state Legislature to secure more revenue from the hospitality industry, her handling of COVID-19 and the historic drop in crime her administration oversaw.
