TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The jury began deliberations in the shooting death trial of 4-year-old Suni Bell Tuesday morning after a dramatic turn of events during the closing arguments Monday afternoon.

"Somebody shot at me, and I shot back. I feel sorry for the little girl, but somebody shot at us," said defendant Avante Sampson.

Sampson unexpectedly interrupts the state during closing arguments with an outburst, telling the courtroom he feels sorry for the little girl, but that somebody shot at him and somebody shot back.

Suni Bell was riding in the back of her uncle's car in August of 2021 when she was fatally shot.

Police said men from three other cars opened fire, killing Suni.
