AKRON, Ohio — Car crashes remain the leading cause of death among teenagers, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In response, Bridgestone is hosting a free program in Akron this weekend to help young drivers gain real-world experience behind the wheel.
"It's a free half-day driver training for teens," said Wade Munday, director of corporate philanthropy at Bridgestone Americas. "It gives them real-world experience behind the wheel, and it's meant to augment traditional driver safety trainings."
On a closed course, professional instructors guide students through high-risk situations — from defensive driving and managing anti-lock braking systems to avoiding distractions on the road.
