LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A months-long NBC News investigation reveals a steady decline in measles, mumps, and rubella vaccination rates for kindergartners across the country.

In a segment aired Monday night on NBC Nightly News, Jefferson County is singled out with records showing 64.9 percent of kindergartners in the county had both doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine for the 2024 school year.

The investigation compares Jefferson County to a Gaines County in West Texas, where 77 percent of kindergartners were fully vaccinated against the measles. That Texan county saw a measles outbreak in early 2025.

Dr. Heather Felton, a pediatrician with Norton Children’s Medical Group, told WAVE News she has noticed parents becoming more skeptical about vaccines.
