HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- The organizers of the Greater Hartford Puerto Rican Parade are giving back with their annual food drive ahead of this weekend's festivities.
Hosted by the Connecticut Institute for Community Development (CICD) Puerto Rican Parade, Inc., President Sammy Vega said it become an annual tradition to lift the community up with the food drive.
"Our mission is to continue educating our new generation. I'm born and raised, if someone asks me, I say I'm Puerto Rican," Vega said. "We also recognize that there are members of our community who are facing challenging times."
With help from non-profit Urban Alliance, the parade organizers collected over 5,000 pounds of canned goods donated by Goya Foods. As a partner of the food drive for six years, Goya Foods Public Relation
