LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Linemen from the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas prepared and trained Tuesday for a trip to a small rural village outside Playa Grande, Guatemala.
The simple flip of a switch is something most people take for granted every day. For residents of Playa Grande, however, it’s a luxury they hope to experience in their daily lives.
“Being able to open the fridge and have something cold to drink,” William Thompson, a lineman with Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas, said. “These villages that we are running power to are not getting a near tenth of what we have in our homes.”
For Thompson, this is his third volunteer trip abroad. His first trip was to Bolivia, the second to Guatemala, and now he’s headed back to a different village in Guatemala.
