The names of 23 veterans who gave their lives serving their country have finally found a place of honour on the Brant War Memorial.
On Monday, a crew from Ingham Monuments began etching the names, one of which had been lost for more than a century, into the granite of the imposing cenotaph.
Brian McIsaac, owner of the Brantford monument company, said it was an honour. He approached the city offering to do the inscription work as a donation.
“These people gave their lives for all Canadians,” he said. “I really can’t charge for that. It’s a pittance compared to what they sacrificed.”
The engraving was to take about eight hours but the painstaking search for information about the war casualties — missing for varied reasons – took many months. Many of the names were submitted by staff from
