BUFFALO, N.Y. — Actor and director Robert Redford has died at the age of 89.

Redford will forever be linked to Buffalo due to the filming of one of his most popular movies here.

The Natural, the fictitious story of aging baseball star Roy Hobbs, was filmed in the Queen City and other Western New York locations during the summer of 1983.

Producers were drawn to Buffalo by the existence of the since torn down War Memorial Stadium which offered them a 1930's era stadium location to match the time frame in which The Natural was set.

Once here they discovered several other locations in Buffalo which fit their needs for filming including the original Park Side Candies on Main Street, All High Stadium, the Central Terminal and the Ellicott Square Building among others.
