A 34-year-old man has been identified as the suspect in a shooting that killed a 58-year-old man in Coachella more than a year ago, authorities said.

Deputies responded about 5:30 a.m. Sept. 2, 2024, to a home in the 85400 block of Valley Road after receiving reports of shots fired, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. They found a man suffering from gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead at the scene, the department said.

Authorities identified the victim as Juan Sanchez of Coachella.

On Friday, the suspect was identified as Adrian Martinez of Coachella, who authorities believe acted alone.

He remains in custody at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on an unrelated case, the department said.
